Despite the growing popularity of large language models, until now we have had little information about exactly how they are used. The ideas and observations of Claude, or “Clio,” are our attempt to answer this question. Clio is an automated analysis tool that enables privacy-friendly analysis of the use of real-world language models. In this video, members of Anthropic’s Societal Impacts team (Deep Ganguli, Esin Durmus, Miles McCain, and Alex Tamkin) discuss the development of Clio, their findings, and the importance of this research.
