SUSE’s new strategy: Innovation and AI

The teams at SUSE, a European Linux distribution, recently marked a major strategic turning point. At KubeCon North America, the company announced a complete overhaul of its brand identity and the introduction of innovative new solutions, including a dedicated artificial intelligence platform.
A reinforced brand identity
SUSE has decided to rename several of its flagship products to better reflect its image and facilitate their understanding by users. Here are some examples of these changes:
- Rancher becomes SUSE Rancherhighlighting the identity of the company.
- Liberty Linux is renamed SUSE Multi Linux Supportillustrating its role as a support solution.
- Harvester transforms into SUSE Virtualization.
- Longhorn is now known as SUSE Storage.
These changes aim to establish a clear link between each product and the SUSE brand, while making their functions more explicit.
A new era of innovation
With this brand overhaul and the introduction of SUSE AIthe company positions itself at the intersection of artificial intelligence, security and cloud-native innovation. This strategy is part of a broader approach of simplification and expansion. For example, the renaming of Liberty Linux to SUSE Multi Linux Support perfectly illustrates this ambition.
Liberty, which is based on OpenELA Linux and is a powerful clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), was not consistent with its old name. Now, under its new name, the product clearly displays its role: a complete multilingual support solutionhaving even attracted renowned companies such as Deutsche Bank.
A strategic launch: SUSE Observability
Another highlight of this announcement is the launch of SUSE Observabilitya complete observability solution in SaaS form. This tool, designed to monitor and optimize cloud-native environments, integrates directly with SUSE Rancher Prime. SUSE does not just follow trends, but aims to diversify its portfolio with service-oriented solutions.
Focus on artificial intelligence
In the current context, SUSE is also entering the field of artificial intelligence with the launch of SUSE AI. Unlike other competing initiatives, this platform stands out by offering a secure environment for the deployment of generative artificial intelligence applications.
Dirk Peter van Leeuwen, CEO of SUSE, highlights the importance of a secure platform for running AI: “It is essential for our customers to have a platform that allows them to run AI securely. »
